Welcome to the junior section of Penrith Hockey Club.
Our aim is to introduce boys and girls aged 6-16 to hockey within a fun, family friendly environment. It is important to the club that we provide an environment where children develop not just their hockey skills but develop confidence and grow friendship groups.
The junior section is growing rapidly across all age groups, but we continue to welcome new members. We use TEAMO as our club management systems. We ask all new members to join using the TEAMO APP. It is a convenient way for the club to achieve GDPR compliant communication, register children’s attendance at training, gather club fees and circulate information about matches. Please see our Home Page for the link to join TEAMO.
Our teams are organised according to England Hockey’s policy of allowing children to train and compete within their school years.
U10 - School Years 2/3/4/5
U12- School Years 6/7
U14 - School Years 8/9
U16 and above are encouraged to attend Senior training on a Monday night or the adult Pitch Up & Play session on a Wednesday night.
All junior members are encouraged to compete in monthly hockey festivals which take place throughout Cumbria.
Our younger U10 and U12 children take part in England Hockey’s annual IN2Hockey competition. This is a national competition which starts every February starting with a County Tournament between local clubs. This acts as a qualifier to a North West regional tournament in April. Penrith Junior teams regularly achieves qualification to the North West Regional tournament. This is a major achievement for our small club, and gives the children an opportunity to compete against some of the largest clubs in the country.
For our older children we aim to keep them in competitive hockey with monthly 11 aside tournaments and friendly fixtures against local clubs. Every September several club members are invited to progress to the Cumbria Junior Academy which offers additional monthly training sessions. Some of our most talented children progress from the Cumbria Junior Academy to regional Talent Academies where they receive high quality coaching as part of England Hockey’s development pathway.
Whatever your child’s ability, our priority is to remember that team sport should be fun.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
